Frequently
asked questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers. From memberships and class schedules to training levels and what to bring on your first day, our FAQs cover everything you need to know before stepping into the ring.

I’m new to boxing, can I still come to class?

Absolutely! We welcome people of all experience levels. You will learn the fundamentals of boxing in our classes and get a great workout in the process!

Yes! We offer a free trial in our various class types for any potential new members. Please reach out and we’re happy to schedule that for you.

Easy, you can contact us for a free trial class or stop by the gym during gym hours and we’re happy to get you started.

Definitely – gym hours are Monday through Friday 8am to 12pm and 3:30pm to 9pm, or Saturdays 8am to 12pm. You can reach us anytime at 510-221-3518 or in person at 688 E 14 th Street, San Leandro CA. Or feel free to email us at info@kennelboxing.com and we’ll be in touch.

For our boxing classes, it’s important to have handwraps and gloves. We have gloves on loan at the gym for the free trial, and offer both gloves and handwraps for sale once you’re ready to buy.

We allow our members to freeze their accounts for either 2 weeks or 1 month, twice per year, free of charge. Just let us know you need a break and we’ll take care of it for you. If you’ve suffered an injury and need to recover, we accommodate that as well – safety and health first!

We’re always sad to see members go but absolutely understand things come up. We have a cancellation form and ask all members to fill this out at the gym. Please make sure you cancel a minimum of 5 days before your next billing cycle, as we do not offer refunds if you miss the cancellation (though we will credit unused classes to your account for future use).

We love welcoming experienced members – but moving into our Intermediate and Advanced Classes requires Head Coach approval. We’ll get you set up in a Beginner’s Class for your free trial, and you can chat with the staff then about moving up. We have a style and regimen all our own at Kennel Boxing, and it’s always good to refresh those fundamentals.

We do have an enrollment fee for new members, just to ensure we are keeping the gym and equipment in the gym top notch. Member enrollment fees are valid for up to 6 months following any cancellation or suspension of membership, however.

If I sign up as a member, what do I receive? And how often am I billed?

Our memberships are billed on a 4-week, 12-week, 24-week, or 48-week cycle. These include a set number of classes during that cycle (use it or lose it!) and also full gym access outside class hours.

We do offer gym only memberships, that’s no problem.

We do offer drop-in classes, class packages, and gym drop-ins for a price. If you’re a member, you do receive a discount so definitely consider signing up if you’ll be by often!

When you become a member, we book you directly into class. Our program is built around consistency and a family atmosphere in class, so we find it helpful to keep members in the same times when we can. But we’re happy to adjust if you let us know, we want to make sure our members are getting the best fitness experience they can.

We do! We are associated with USA Boxing, and do have Advanced Members on the Amateur Competition Team. We also have Professional fighters – so if you have the long-term goal and drive we’re here to support you on the journey.

Absolutely – we have Personal Trainers who meet with their clients at the gym. We’re happy to put you in touch and you can coordinate directly, just let us know.

Yes, although we currently ask that members be 8 years old before they start.

No – the classes are built to teach you fundamentals, get a great workout, and build a community and family. We do not allow or expect members to spar and do full contact until they reach an expertise level where this can be done safely. And we would never encourage full contact if you don’t want to spar. Safety first!
